What it is

A dynamic broadcast mic with USB and XLR in one body

The Shure MV7 (and the newer MV7+, MV7X, and MV7i) is Shure’s answer to “I want SM7B character but I don’t want to buy a Cloudlifter and an interface on day one.” It’s a broadcast-style dynamic mic with both USB-C and XLR jacks built into the body.

Plug the USB into your computer, you’re recording. Or plug XLR into a real audio interface later, and the mic stays. The MV7 grows with you.

The flavors

MV7 (original). USB + XLR with built-in headphone jack and DSP.
MV7+. Newer version with brighter LED, USB-C, real-time pop filter and digital effects in firmware. The current pick.
MV7X. XLR-only version, cheaper, no DSP. The “just give me the mic” option.
MV7i. MV7 with a second XLR input built into the body — for adding a guest mic without an interface.

Should you buy one?

Get an MV7+ ifYou’re podcasting and you want one device that handles USB now and XLR later. Around $280, no Cloudlifter needed, looks like a baby SM7B.
