RØDECaster Video S — how to actually operate it

1 · Turn it on

1. Plug the included power supply into the USB-C power port on the back.
2. Press the red button right next to that power port.
3. It starts up and shows a QR code on the screen. That's normal.
4. Tap the Home icon on the touchscreen to reach the main screen.

2 · Plug in your cameras

1. Connect each camera with an HDMI cable to HDMI 1, HDMI 2, or HDMI 3 on the back.
2. Those three inputs show up on the big buttons along the bottom — Input Buttons 1–3.
3. Each camera must send a 1920×1080 picture. Most cameras do this by default.

3 · Plug in a microphone

1. Plug your mic into one of the two combo jacks on the back — they take either an XLR plug or a ¼-inch plug.
2. If your mic needs phantom power (most large studio condensers do), turn it on in the audio mixer: tap the bottom-right icon on the home screen, or press the encoder, to open the audio mixer, pick your input, and switch phantom power on.
3. Plug headphones into a ¼-inch headphone output on the back. To set the volume, press the audio encoder until the headphone light comes on, then turn it.

4 · Set the frame rate — do this once

This is the one setting to get right before you record. Pick a single frame rate and set every camera to match it.

1. Using the encoder, open Settings → Video → Frame Rate.
2. Choose one: common choices are 30 or 29.97 for the US.
3. Set your cameras to output that same rate. That's it — leave it there.

5 · Switch between cameras while live

1. The camera currently on air glows red.
2. Press another Input Button (1–4) to cut straight to that camera — it turns red and goes live.
3. Want to line a shot up first? It glows green (cued) before you send it live.

6 · Record your show to a drive

1. Plug an external drive into the USB 3 port. It must be formatted ExFAT, and an SSD is strongly recommended so it can keep up.
2. Look at the record button: green means it's ready.
3. Press it to start — it turns red while recording.
4. Press it again to stop.

7 · Fix your voice — turn the bass down

If a voice sounds too boomy or bassy, you have two tools. The quickest is the high-pass filter; for finer control use the EQ in the app.

Quick way — on the unit

1. Tap the bottom-right icon on the home screen (or click the encoder) to open the audio mixer.
2. Turn the encoder to land on your microphone input.
3. Tap the top-right icon on that input's page to open VoxLab voice processing, and ease the tone toward less bass / more clarity.

Fine control — in the RØDECaster app

1. Open the RØDECaster app, open the Audio Mixer, and click your mic input's icon.
2. Click Processing, then the Advanced button.
3. Turn on the High-Pass Filter and set it around 75–100 Hz — this alone removes most rumble and boom.
4. Still bassy? In the three-band parametric EQ, pull the Low (bass) band down a few dB.

8 · Go live (stream)

Set the profile up once on the computer; after that you go live from the unit itself.

One-time setup (in the app)

1. Open the RØDECaster app with the unit on the same network, and select your device.
2. Open Stream Profiles → Add Profile and give it a name (e.g. "YouTube").
3. Paste in the server and stream key from your platform (YouTube, Facebook, etc.), then Save.

Going live (on the unit)

1. Tap the strip just below the audio level meters on the home screen.
2. Choose your Profile.
3. Tap Go Live and confirm with the green tick.
4. To end, tap the elapsed-time button and confirm.

9 · Record each camera separately (ISO)

Optional. This saves every camera as its own file so you can re-edit later instead of being stuck with your live cuts.

1. On the unit: Settings → Multitrack → REC Video → choose ISO.
2. (Or in the app: Device Configuration → Video → Recording → turn ISO on.)
3. To also split the audio per input: Settings → Multitrack → REC Audio → on.
